I believe that this picture portrays the struggle all of us encounter with the "fist of the future." Indeed, it seems to epitomize the constant struggle against uncertainty and the knowledge that someday we may be crushed by fate. The protagonist's query brings to mind the many decisions we make and the failures that result from them, it could easily be rephrased as "Why did I go to art school?" or "Why didn't I do more with my life than work at McDonalds.
